Did You Know?
Fascinating facts about Ajax House League Baseball
Time Limits Keep Games Moving
Our youngest players (Jr T-Ball/T-Ball) have 60-minute games with an absolute 75-minute curfew, while older divisions play longer. Late games must have lights out by 11:00 PM sharp!
Pitching Machine Magic
Rookie players hit from a pitching machine set between 30-35 MPH. If the machine breaks down, coaches step in to pitch - and if a ball hits the machine, the batter automatically gets first base for safety!
Everyone Plays, Everyone Bats
All players attending a game bat in turn, regardless of field position. Plus, every player must play at least half of each game - no one sits out twice before everyone sits once!
Field Sizes Grow With Players
From 44-foot pitching distances for our youngest to the full 60 feet 6 inches for Bantam/Midget, and bases ranging from 55 feet to 90 feet - the field literally grows as players develop!
Lightning Safety First
We follow the 30-30 rule: if lightning is seen, we seek shelter immediately and wait 30 minutes after the last strike before resuming play. Safety always comes first!
Smart Call-Up System
Teams can call up players from the division directly below to ensure games go on. Called-up players can't pitch, must bat at the bottom of the order, and wear their own team's uniform!
Progressive Base Running
T-Ball and Rookie players can't steal bases, Mosquito players can only steal second base, while Pee Wee players can steal but can't leave base until the ball leaves the pitcher's hand!
Special Equipment Rules
Batting helmets with chinstraps are mandatory (except Bantam/Midget where straps are optional), no metal cleats allowed, and absolutely no softball bats - only Bantam/Midget can use wooden bats!
Mercy Rule Keeps It Fun
All divisions have a 5-run maximum per inning (except T-Ball which has no mercy rule). This keeps games competitive and ensures everyone gets their turn to shine!
