MOSQUITO RULES:

DIAMOND LAYOUT:

a)  The base lengths are 65 feet with the pitching distance at forty four (44) feet.

b)  The home team is responsible for set-up and removal of bases and pitching rubber.

PLAYING RULES:

a)  GAME TIME: All Mosquito games start at 6:15 pm or 8:15pm.

b)  No new inning shall begin one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes after game start. ABSOLUTE curfew is one (1) hour and forty five (45) minutes after game start time during regular season. The umpire will announce the time of the first pitch which will be the official start time.

c)  Each team may field a maximum of 10 players as follows: 1st baseman, 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman, shortstop, left fielder, right fielder, catcher, pitcher, and TWO CENTRE FIELDERS. The minimum number of players required for a legal game will be 7. In the event that neither team can field 7 players both teams will be assessed a loss. Any player arriving late shall be placed at the bottom of the batting order. The player will be allowed to play in the game no matter what inning it is.

d)  No player shall play an outfield position more than one inning in a row and a player may play a specific infield position no more than twice per game not two innings in a row with the exception of the catcher who in the interest of speeding up the game may play an entire game as catcher. Every player, with the exception of the catcher, must rotate to the outfield at least once per game.

e)  Three (3) complete innings or curfew constitutes a legal game.

f)  During the regular season, each pitcher will be allowed one appearance for two (2) consecutive innings only. An appearance is defined as one or more pitches in an inning.

g)  Balks will not be called. The umpire will inform the pitcher of the balk and the play will be dead.

h)  The manager/coach is allowed to make unlimited trips to the mound to talk to the pitcher.

i)  A five run mercy rule will be in effect for the first two (2) innings.

j)  One of the pitchers in a game must be from the MINOR mosquito division.

k)  Base runners may not steal second base until the ball has crossed the plate. Any player found leading off or stealing prior to the ball crossing the plate will be called out. Stealing third and home are not permitted.

l)  No runner shall score from 3rd base unless he is hit home on an infield or outfield hit. Balls that are thrown out of play are 1 base from time of the pitch regardless of how many plays that may have occurred before the ball left the playing surface. If there is a runner is on 3rd and a ball is thrown out of play, or an over throw occurs on the infield (but ball stays on playing diamond) the runner is to wait for the next batted ball before they can attempt to score. The exception to this is when a ball is thrown out of play and bases are loaded then the runner from 3rd is forced to score, if runners are on 3rd and 2nd and the ball is thrown out of play then only the batter is given 1st and all other runners are to stay on the bases they are on. For balls hit to the outfield, the runner may advance at will, but, when the ball is thrown into the infield runners are to take a station to station approach, umpires may call time and move runners back if coaches are trying to stretch out hits.

m)  Outfielders must play on the grass behind the baseline.

n)  Each team must provide a scorer - the WINNING team is to hand in the game sheet.

o)  The batter is not permitted to run on a drop third strike.
