Ajax Spartans Minor Peewee Tier 1 Rep team has returned from Cooperstown, New York after attending a week long tournament that had 104 teams entered for the first time ever at the Cooperstown Dreams Park. There were teams from all over the United States and one other Canadian team from Montreal.
Cooperstown Dreams Park, the First and Foremost Youth Baseball Facility, has 22 professionally groomed and lighted fields. It's situated on 150 acres and features baseball diamonds with grass infields enclosed by eight-foot-high stadium walls.
After competing in a total of six games on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a record of 2 wins and 4 losses and ranking them 66th out of 104 the team was given a bye through the first round of the single-elimination tournament that started on Wednesday. In the second round they won their game against the 74th place team the GORC Wildcats and advanced to the third round of the single elimination tournament. This was where they faced the 35th place team the River Parish Bayou Bandits where they were eliminated by losing 11 to 3. They played a grand total of eight amazing games with a record of 3 wins and 5 losses against some of the best baseball teams from across the United States. Three members of our team even hit homeruns out of the stadium (Isiah Wright, Justin Richards and Chris Fisher).
The owner of Cooperstown Dream Park firmly believes all teams are winners and it is their mission and goal to promote a high caliber of play and allow young players to experience the purity of baseball as it was meant to be. By stepping up to the plate, regardless of outcome, players will leave with a sense of pride, dignity and accomplishment for having participated and becoming a part of history. Cooperstown Dreams Park is a place in time where the players are their own heroes.
Each of the boys are now listed in the Youth Baseball Hall of Fame and they all received tournament rings, neither of which can compare to the memories they will carry with them for their lifetime from this great experience!!!
